of the following online emergency preparedness resources:

Online Medical Histories

One Medical Passport

WE CANNOT stress enough how important it is for EVERYONE to have a RECORDED
medical history
.  A medical history helps first responders (and others who treat you) know what
medicines you are currently taking and your current state of health so that they can administer
appropriate medical treatment in a timely manner.  Use One Medical Passport, the worksheets in
The Family Guide or other online/written resources; it doesn't matter which one you use… just
have a medical history recorded somewhere and keep it current (even if you are healthy).

Online Medical Tips

Dr. Mehmet C. Oz, MD

An excellent resource of medical information online: Dr. Oz, host of The Dr. Oz Show, is Vice-Chair
and Professor of Surgery at Columbia University. He directs the Cardiovascular Institute and
Complementary Medicine Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital. His research interests include
heart replacement surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, complementary medicine and health
care policy. He has authored over 400 original publications, book chapters, and medical books; has
received several patents.

First Responders

The American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is one of the largest & most visible first responders in disasters. They
are in need of cash contributions…  individual and corporate contributions have dropped off
drastically.  Please donate if you can.

Your LOCAL charitable organizations are often the first responders in unexpected

disasters.  In today's economic times, they desperately need your help… your donations

of goods & services,  your time volunteering, as well as, your cash contributions. Please

donate when and what you can.

Emergency Message Center

Red Cross Safe & Well Message Center

This website provides a way for you to register yourself as "safe and well." From a list of standard messages, you can select
those that you want to communicate to your family members, letting them know of your well-being.

NOAA radio stations

National Weather Service

An important aspect of preparedness is to become and stay informed.  Radios (hand-crank or battery operated) often
become the only means of finding out what is going on during a disaster.  Prepare for a serious weather system by knowing
your local radio bands for a NOAA radio station in your area.

US Government Response

Department of Homeland Security

The United States Department of Homeland Security provides a coordinated, comprehensive federal response and mounts
a swift and effective recovery effort in the event of a terrorist attack, natural disaster or other large-scale emergency.
Its website covers chemical and biological preparedness (subjects NOT addressed in
The Family Guide).
